Up Next: Luca

Though COVID-19 has dramatically shifted a lot of movie release timelines, there’s at least a little good news from Pixar. We now know the name of Pixar’s next original feature: Luca!

Currently slated for summer 2021, Luca will tell the story of a young boy with a secret…he is a sea monster who ventures into the Italian Riviera for spirited adventures.

Pixar hasn’t released many details about the film yet, but we do know which creative minds are behind the film. It will be produced by Andrea Warren, who also produced Cars 3 and the short Lava, and directed by Enrico Casarosa, who worked previously on the short La Luna. Here’s how Casarosa describes the film:

“This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in Luca. So in addition to the beauty and charm of the Italian seaside, our film will feature an unforgettable summer adventure that will fundamentally change Luca.”

Keep your eyes peeled – we’re anticipating casting announcements, a plot summary, and some more stills in the next couple of months, if Pixar keeps up their usual routine!
