The Models For Early Disney Animation

When Disney animation first began, the studio used real-life models to develop movement and mannerisms for their characters. These models dressed in full costume, and interacted with physical set pieces to help animators bring scenes to life.

The Daily Mail published a story a few years ago detailing some of the most famous models. These included stand-ins for Snow White, Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip, Maleficent, Tinker Bell, Captain Hook, Chernabog (Fantasia’s villain), and Princess Ariel.
